Turn a YouTube video into lessons, quizzes, and follow-up tests

Watching a video once rarely sticks; summaries don't prove what you learned.

What hurt

@Michael_Fenech_ posted a reusable youtube-to-course skill prompt: transcript (never invent), 5–7 lessons, one HTML interactive course with quizzes, a final exam, retention follow-ups at 2 and 7 days, and save as a skill after you review the first run. Not affiliated with xAI.

What to install or create

Paste skill prompt → give one YouTube link → review HTML course → save skill.

Bots

  • Teacher bot

Builds interactive courses from YouTube links and saves the skill.

Plugins

  • Browser

    Optional

Routines

  • None on the first run. Watch one manual pass first.

The prompt

youtube-to-course skill (author-quoted)

Quoted from @Michael_Fenech_ — as published. Do not invent a second system prompt.

Create a reusable skill called 'youtube-to-course'.

Whenever I give you a YouTube link, turn the video into a short, interactive course that helps me learn and retain its content.

1 - TRANSCRIPT: Retrieve the full transcript. Try YouTube captions, a public transcript service, then YouTube's transcript panel. If all fail, ask me to paste it. Never invent missing content. Flag when important visual information may be absent.

2 - LESSONS: Build 5 to 7 short lessons in a logical order. Explain each idea simply, highlight the key takeaway and identify the most important lesson. Clearly label the video's unverified claims.

3 - INTERACTIVE COURSE: Create a single HTML file containing a title page, individual lessons, navigation buttons, keyboard controls, a progress bar and a multiple-choice quiz after every lesson with immediate feedback.

4 - FINAL EXAM: Include approximately 6 questions, a final score and a page showing how to apply the learning to my own work.

5 - RETENTION: After I finish, ask which questions I missed. Offer follow-up quizzes after 2 and 7 days, subject to available reminder capabilities.

6 - REUSABILITY: Save this as a skill my other Bots can use. Record which transcript retrieval method worked so future runs can use it.

Test the process on one video I provide. Show me the completed course before saving the skill.

Check the HTML for errors before delivering it. If any requested capability is unavailable, explain the limitation rather than pretending it worked.

First run

  1. 1Read https://x.com/Michael_Fenech_/status/2113406219851579564 (credit @Michael_Fenech_; full prompt on the quoted post).
  2. 2Paste the author-quoted youtube-to-course skill prompt into a chat.
  3. 3Give it one YouTube link to test.
  4. 4Work through the HTML course and quizzes it builds.
  5. 5Only then approve saving the skill for the next video.

Approval fence

Show the completed course before saving the skill; no pretending on missing capabilities.

What to tweak

Steal 'never invent missing transcript' and label unverified claims.
