Tip only: tell the bot to connect the MCP

Custom MCP setup in other tools is a maze of connector vs plugin options.

What hurt

Nabil Kazi (@nQaze) compared Claude/Codex MCP setup to Grok Bot: he told the bot to connect, it found the link, prompted auth, done. Tip only — steal the chat-first connect path.

What to install or create

In chat, name the MCP/connector you want. Let the bot find the install/auth path and stop at the human auth step. Prefer this before hunting Settings menus.

Bots

  • Desk

Finds the MCP/plugin connect path and stops at auth.

Plugins

  • None on day one. Follow the first-run steps.

Routines

  • None on the first run. Watch one manual pass first.

The prompt

This is a tip, not a pasteable system prompt. The author did not publish one. Follow the first-run steps.

First run

  1. 1Read https://x.com/nQaze/status/2098884956550537539.
  2. 2In Grok Bot chat, say which MCP or plugin to connect.
  3. 3Let the bot open the connect/auth flow. Complete OAuth yourself — no keys in chat.
  4. 4Retry once if the link is wrong. Fall back to Settings → Plugins only if chat-connect fails.
  5. 5Confirm the tool appears before you give it a real task.

Approval fence

Auth is always you. Do not paste secrets into chat.

What to tweak

Steal the ask-the-bot connect habit. You still complete OAuth yourself.
