Install only 3 skills; keep the rest as GitHub links in memory

Every installed skill loads on every bot and burns context each task.

What hurt

Ricardo (@ricmargalho) relays Pawel Huryn (@PawelHuryn): with 7 product bots on Grok Bot he saw every installed skill load on all bots and occupy context each task. He kept only 3 installed; the rest are GitHub links saved in each bot's memory, opened when the task needs them. Not affiliated with xAI.

What to install or create

Cap installed skills. Memory holds links. Open on demand. Credit @PawelHuryn.

Bots

  • Product bots

≤3 skills installed globally; other skills as GitHub links in memory.

Plugins

  • None on day one. Follow the first-run steps.

Files

  • Skill links (memory). GitHub URLs for skills opened only when the task asks.

Routines

  • None on the first run. Watch one manual pass first.

The prompt

This is a tip, not a pasteable system prompt. The author did not publish one. Follow the first-run steps.

First run

  1. 1Read https://x.com/ricmargalho/status/2110157906486481267 (credit @ricmargalho).
  2. 2List installed skills across your bots; keep at most ~3 that every task needs.
  3. 3For the rest, save the GitHub skill URL in that bot's memory with a one-line when-to-open note.
  4. 4Uninstall the unused installed skills.
  5. 5On the next task, confirm the bot opens the link only when needed.

Approval fence

No skill installs that auto-run spendy tools without your yes.

What to tweak

Steal install-cap + link-in-memory. Context is rent.
