Picking the next show for two people means scrolling forever and arguing.

What hurt

Filipe Névola (@FilipeNevola) took the NYT list of the 100 best TV shows of the century, recorded which ones he and his wife watched and how they rated them, and made a bot called Series Nerd that recommends what they'll like. Not affiliated with xAI.

What to install or create

Start from a published best-of list, mark what you've watched and your ratings, and keep that file where the bot can read it (he keeps it in a personal repo). Add more shows over time; the more ratings, the better the recommendations.

Bots

  • Series Nerd

Recommends shows based on your household's ratings.

Plugins

  • GitHub

    Optional

Files

  • Ratings file: show, who watched, each person's rating.

Routines

  • None on the first run. Watch one manual pass first.

The prompt

This is a tip, not a pasteable system prompt. The author did not publish one. Follow the first-run steps.

First run

  1. 1Read https://x.com/FilipeNevola/status/2107869535949009144 (credit @FilipeNevola).
  2. 2Grab a best-of list you trust as a starting set.
  3. 3Mark what each of you watched and rate it, in a file the bot can read.
  4. 4Make a bot whose only job is recommending from those ratings.
  5. 5Keep adding shows you remember or finish so the picks improve.

Approval fence

Read-only and low stakes; nothing is bought or posted.

What to tweak

Your ratings are the context. A public list just gets you started fast.
