Work
Make every routine justify its schedule: event, check, daily, or delete
Routines on dumb timers wake up, find nothing new, and still cost you.
What hurt
@Takerovitch had 14 routines on fixed timers (a morning brief ran every 15 minutes for a report read once at 8am). They gave every routine a rule: webhook if something real must happen first, hourly plus a cheap check if info changes during the day, daily for reports, 5 minutes plus check only when speed matters, delete if you can't say why. Their bill went from about $397 to $45 a month (their numbers), and the first pass removed 4 routines. The audit prompt is quoted. Not affiliated with xAI.
What to install or create
Purpose + input + deadline → how often it really changes → least frequent schedule that still meets the deadline.
Bots
Main bot
Reviews every routine and proposes new schedules.
Plugins
None on day one. Follow the first-run steps.
Routines
None on the first run. Watch one manual pass first.
The prompt
Review and rebuild routine schedules (author-quoted)
Quoted from @Takerovitch — as published. Do not invent a second system prompt.
Review my active routines and rebuild their schedules. → Identify each job's purpose, input source and delivery deadline. → Estimate how often its information actually changes. → Compare event triggers, periodic checks and fixed daily runs. → Pick the least frequent schedule that still meets the deadline. → Flag routines that duplicate each other or no longer matter. Show me the changes before enabling or deleting anything.
First run
- 1Read https://x.com/Takerovitch/status/2113046554458104279 (credit @Takerovitch).
- 2Paste the author-quoted prompt into your main bot.
- 3Read its table of purpose, source, deadline, and proposed schedule.
- 4Approve schedule changes one by one; delete only what you can't justify.
- 5Re-run the review monthly.
Approval fence
It shows changes first; nothing is enabled or deleted without your OK.
What to tweak
Steal the ladder: webhook > hourly+check > daily > 5min+check > delete.
