A tiny pre-check script decides whether a routine wakes the bot

Many routines wake an AI just to learn there's nothing to do.

What hurt

@wavegod built an auditor bot that collects every routine word for word, flags the ones whose 'is there work?' question is an exact check (a marker file, a release tag), and writes a script that runs first: exit 0 means stay asleep, 10 means wake up, 20 means the script broke so wake anyway. Only simple yes/no checks get scripted, and nothing that sends, buys, or posts. First pass: 20 routines across 13 bots, 4 scriptable, 2 passed the zero-risk bar, 1 live. Not affiliated with xAI.

What to install or create

Collect routines → find exact yes/no checks → script with 0/10/20 exit codes → fail open.

Bots

  • Routine auditor

Collects routines, writes and tests pre-check scripts.

Plugins

  • None on day one. Follow the first-run steps.

Routines

  • None on the first run. Watch one manual pass first.

The prompt

This is a tip, not a pasteable system prompt. The author did not publish one. Follow the first-run steps.

First run

  1. 1Read https://x.com/wavegod/status/2112961302767493490 (credit @wavegod).
  2. 2Ask each bot to list its routines word for word.
  3. 3Mark the ones where 'is there work?' is an exact check (file, tag, count).
  4. 4Have the auditor write a script: 0 stay asleep, 10 wake, 20 broke so wake anyway.
  5. 5Test it, save the original prompt, and approve one routine at a time.

Approval fence

Never script anything that sends, buys, or posts; the owning bot adds the gate line only after your OK.

What to tweak

Steal the exit codes and the fail-open rule: a broken script wakes the bot instead of hiding work.
