Don't build a bot team on day one: one topic, one bot

Home finances become four bots, four instruction sets, and a token bill.

What hurt

Andres Ruggiero (@AndresRuggiero3) sees the common overcomplication: bills + subscriptions + budget + reminders as four bots. Better: one topic, one bot. One money bot finds subscriptions, flags unused ones, reminds before bills, and weekly-summarizes—it sees the whole picture four bots would miss. Why: shared context, fewer handoffs/tokens, one instruction set to fix, and most "new bots" are really a new prompt or routine. Split only when the work is a genuinely different job (topic, tools, or audience). Your money bot shouldn't plan meals. Not affiliated with xAI.

What to install or create

Start one bot per topic → add prompt/routine first → split only when jobs diverge.

Bots

  • Topic owner

Owns one topic end-to-end until a split truly hurts.

Plugins

  • None on day one. Follow the first-run steps.

Routines

  • None on the first run. Watch one manual pass first.

The prompt

This is a tip, not a pasteable system prompt. The author did not publish one. Follow the first-run steps.

First run

  1. 1Read https://x.com/AndresRuggiero3/status/2112671200291811680 (credit @AndresRuggiero3).
  2. 2Pick one topic (e.g. money) and put bills, subscriptions, reminders, and weekly summary on that one bot.
  3. 3Prefer a new prompt or routine over a new bot when something feels missing.
  4. 4Split only when topic, tools, or audience truly diverge.
  5. 5Keep unrelated topics (e.g. meals) on a different bot.

Approval fence

You decide when a second bot is a real new job, not a new prompt.

What to tweak

Steal: one topic owns everything about that topic until it hurts.
