Tip only: ban agent comments — they hide the hack
Agent comments are rarely for humans. They are cover for a hack that never gets fixed.
What hurt
Samuel Hu (@realSamHu) said Eric banned comments in his Grok Bot codebase for a reason that stuck: agents love leaving comments — not for humans, as cover for a hack. Then the file fills with band-aids and the root cause never gets fixed. He notes potato mode even ships a "no comments" skill that spins an agent whose whole job is deleting them ("comments sickle"). Tip only — mention that skill as the author did; do not invent its body. Not affiliated with xAI or potato/pstack.
What to install or create
Ban leftover agent comments. Treat them as bandage smell. Use a no-comments skill (or a delete pass) so the hack has to be fixed, not narrated.
Bots
Comments sickle
Finds agent bandage comments and proposes deletes. Does not invent a new skill body.
Plugins
None on day one. Follow the first-run steps.
Files
House rule: no agent comments. A comment that explains a hack is a smell — fix the code.
Routines
None on the first run. Watch one manual pass first.
The prompt
This is a tip, not a pasteable system prompt. The author did not publish one. Follow the first-run steps.
First run
- 1Read https://x.com/realSamHu/status/2100714819431301136. Tip only — do not invent the potato no-comments skill body.
- 2Add a house rule to your Grok Bot / repo: agents do not leave comments.
- 3If you use potato/pstack, turn on the author's "no comments" skill; otherwise run a delete-comment pass yourself.
- 4Treat remaining comments as bandage smell. Fix the hack instead of keeping the note.
- 5Review the diff. You keep or revert. No publish or spend on this page.
Approval fence
Delete-comment passes stay in the repo you own. No send, publish, or spend. Review the diff before you keep the deletes.
What to tweak
Steal the comment ban + sickle pass. Comments that explain a hack are the bug.
