Work

Don't hand a new routine the keys on day one: a draft-only first week

Routines go wrong when they get full write access before anyone has seen how they think.

What hurt

ShareGrokBots (@ShareGrokBots) lays out a safer first week for any new routine: draft only, compare, fix the instructions, then grant one action at a time. Not affiliated with xAI.

What to install or create

For a week the routine writes the email, post, or update but sends and changes nothing. Each day you compare its draft with what you'd have done and note the misses. If it keeps getting the same thing wrong, fix the instructions, not the outputs. Then grant actions one at a time — sending first, deleting last.

Bots

  • No new bot. Follow the first-run steps.

Plugins

  • None on day one. Follow the first-run steps.

Routines

  • None on the first run. Watch one manual pass first.

The prompt

A safer first week (author-quoted)

Quoted from @ShareGrokBots — as published. Do not invent a second system prompt.

1. Draft only. Let it write the email, the post, the update, but nothing gets sent or changed.
2. Compare. Each day, look at what it drafted next to what you would have done. Note the misses.
3. Fix the instructions, not the outputs. If it keeps getting the same thing wrong, that is a prompt problem.
4. Then grant one action at a time. Sending first, deleting last.

First run

  2. 2When you create a routine, tell it: draft only this week, send or change nothing.
  3. 3Each day, put its draft next to what you would have done and note the misses.
  4. 4When the same miss repeats, change the routine's instructions, not just that one output.
  5. 5After the week, allow one action (sending first) and keep deleting for last.

Approval fence

Nothing sends or changes during the trial week. Each new permission (send, then edit, then delete) is something you grant on purpose.

What to tweak

A week of drafts costs a few minutes a day; one bad unsupervised send can cost a customer.
