Work
Linear: each agent as its own app user (OAuth actor=app)
Agent comments that show up as your personal user muddy audit trails and burn human seats.
What hurt
Cristina Cordova (@cjc) of Linear: the native way is each agent as its own Linear app user (OAuth actor=app) so comments/issues show as that agent (@bot, @Muse, …). App users are not charged as human seats. She shared the prompt she used in Grok (author-quoted below). Not affiliated with xAI.
What to install or create
Install agent as Linear app. Never personal API key. Author every write as the app user.
Bots
Linear app agent
Creates issues/comments only as the dedicated Linear app user.

The prompt
Author-quoted prompt
Quoted from @cjc — as published. Do not invent a second system prompt.
Last line is our approval fence: Never send, post, spend, or buy without my explicit yes.
Act only as a dedicated Linear app user / agent installed for this workflow (e.g. “Grok Bot”) — never via a personal API key or a human’s account. Every issue you create and every comment you post must be authored by that app user so Linear natively shows the agent as the source. Never send, post, spend, or buy without my explicit yes.
First run
- 1Read https://x.com/cjc/status/2102503489813533000.
- 2Install your Grok Bot (or Muse) as a Linear app user with OAuth actor=app — not a personal key.
- 3Paste Cristina’s author-quoted prompt (or equivalent) so every write is authored by that app user.
- 4Create one test issue/comment. Confirm Linear shows the agent name, not your human seat.
Approval fence
Only create issues/comments the workflow allows. No silent closes or assignee thrash.
What to tweak
Steal app-user authorship. Audit trail stays honest; seats stay free of agent noise.
