Work
One prompt that makes a new bot interview you, then write its own job, limits and schedule
Writing a careful prompt for every new bot takes longer than the job.
What hurt
cryptjitzu (@cryptjitzu) has a 9-to-5 and runs about ten bots at night. They no longer write bot prompts; they paste one prompt that makes the bot interview them first. Not affiliated with xAI.
What to install or create
The bot asks at most seven questions (result, what never to touch, frequency, credit budget, memory), then writes a charter for approval: JOB, DONE, NEVER, ROUTINE, MEMORY, BUDGET. Every run ends with what it did, what it cost and what needs a yes. The same prompt has run as a trader's morning-levels bot, a reseller's listing drafter and a parent's Sunday school-email plan.
Bots
No new bot. Follow the first-run steps.
Plugins
None on day one. Follow the first-run steps.
Routines
None on the first run. Watch one manual pass first.
The prompt
Interview-me-first charter (author-quoted)
Quoted from @cryptjitzu — as published. Do not invent a second system prompt.
1/3 "Before you do anything, interview me. One question at a time, max 7: - What result do you want, and how will we know it's done? - What should I never touch? - How often should I run? - What's my credit budget per run? - What should I remember between runs?" 2/3 "Then write your own charter and show it to me for approval: JOB: one outcome DONE: the deliverable NEVER: sends, posts, buys, deletes, or logins without my OK on the exact text ROUTINE: when you run MEMORY: what you keep BUDGET: when to stop" 3/3 "Every run, end with: what you did, what it cost, what needs my yes. If nothing changed, say 'nothing new' and stop. If something fails twice, stop and tell me what you tried. Week 1: I review everything, then suggest one rule to cut."
First run
- 1Read https://x.com/cryptjitzu/status/2109074738114855225 (credit @cryptjitzu).
- 2Paste the three parts into a new bot.
- 3Answer its questions one at a time.
- 4Approve or edit the charter it writes.
- 5In week one, review every run, then cut one rule.
Approval fence
The charter's NEVER line covers sends, posts, buys, deletes and logins without your OK on the exact text.
What to tweak
The part that matters: it asks what it should never touch before it starts.
