Scan your LAN for creative unlocks — plan only, change nothing

Idle home devices sit at one function; you never map what else they can do.

What hurt

@skaronis pastes a Grok Bot prompt (run from a laptop on the LAN): discover devices without printing IPs/MACs/hostnames in the final output; note root/jailbreak/local-API paths; else Home Assistant / Matter / documented unlocks; suggest 2–3 use cases each; ranked easiest→hardest; only own gear; make no changes. Author-quoted. Not affiliated with xAI.

What to install or create

Laptop on LAN → paste prompt → ranked unlock plan → you decide what to try.

Bots

The prompt

Home network unlock plan (author-quoted)

Quoted from @skaronis — as published. Do not invent a second system prompt.

Scan my local home network and build a creative automation plan. Steps: 1) Discover every device on the LAN (nmap or equivalent), listing make, model and device type where you can infer it, but never print IPs, MACs or hostnames in the final output. 2) For each device, check whether it can be rooted, jailbroken or put into a developer or local-API mode that unlocks custom use cases, and note the method. 3) If a device can't be jailbroken, find the next best unlock: official local API, Home Assistant integration, Matter/Thread local control, or a documented hack. 4) For each device, suggest 2-3 genuinely cool use cases enabled by that unlock. 5) Only touch my own gear, make no changes, and output a ranked list of use cases from easiest to hardest, with the unlock method and any risk for each. Start by listing the devices you found and the unlock status of each.

First run

  1. 1Read https://x.com/skaronis/status/2114142628514316415 (credit @skaronis).
  2. 2Run the bot from a laptop on your home LAN (needed to scan).
  3. 3Paste the author-quoted prompt.
  4. 4Confirm the final report omits IPs, MACs, and hostnames.
  5. 5Pick one easy unlock yourself — the bot must not apply changes.

Approval fence

Plan only — bot must not change devices, credentials, or network settings.

What to tweak

Steal the fence: never print identifiers in the final output; make no changes.
