Let Grok Bot hand coding tasks to Grok Build on your own machine

You want the bot to use the coding tool already installed on your own computer.

What hurt

Kenneth Barry (@kb18951452) replied with how he makes it work: Grok Bot and Grok Build both installed on his rig, local execution allowed, and a one-line prompt. Not affiliated with xAI.

What to install or create

Install both on the same computer, turn on execution on this computer in Grok Bot's settings (always allow or ask every time), then in a Grok Bot session say “Use Grok Build to [do a task].”

Bots

  • Main bot

Delegates coding tasks to Grok Build on your computer.

Plugins

  • None on day one. Follow the first-run steps.

Routines

  • None on the first run. Watch one manual pass first.

The prompt

Settings path and prompt (author-quoted)

Quoted from @kb18951452 — as published. Do not invent a second system prompt.

In Grok Bot >> Profile Pic (bottom left) >> Settings >> Computer >> Execution on this computer >> Always Allow | Ask Every time.

In a grok bot session, I can then give a prompt like:

"Use Grok Build to [do a task]"

First run

  1. 1Read https://x.com/kb18951452/status/2107971766731636970 (credit @kb18951452).
  2. 2Install Grok Bot and Grok Build on the same computer.
  3. 3In Grok Bot settings, allow execution on this computer (start with ask every time).
  4. 4In a chat, say “Use Grok Build to [task]” with a small, reversible task.
  5. 5Review the result before giving it bigger jobs.

Approval fence

Pick “ask every time” until you've seen a few runs; local execution can change real files on your machine.

What to tweak

Install once, allow local execution, then delegate in plain words.
