Same mistake again? Turn “remember this” into a gate it can't skip

“Remember this” gets buried under newer memory and the old mistake comes back.

What hurt

Texas Twins Dad (@B_doong2daddy) stopped relying on memory for repeat mistakes. For his app he built 32 tests that run on every change, each proven by a bug he planted on purpose, and says the same idea applies to general workflows. Not affiliated with xAI.

What to install or create

Each time a mistake repeats, write a check the bot must pass before it calls the work done: a test for code, a checklist or script for other workflows. Prove the check works by breaking it on purpose once.

Bots

  • No new bot. Follow the first-run steps.

Plugins

  • None on day one. Follow the first-run steps.

Routines

  • None on the first run. Watch one manual pass first.

The prompt

This is a tip, not a pasteable system prompt. The author did not publish one. Follow the first-run steps.

First run

  1. 1Read https://x.com/B_doong2daddy/status/2107248750682882539 (credit @B_doong2daddy).
  2. 2List the mistakes your bot has repeated after you told it to remember.
  3. 3For each, ask the bot to write a check that catches it (a test for code, a script or checklist for other work).
  4. 4Plant the mistake once on purpose and confirm the check fails.
  5. 5Tell the bot the work is only done when every check passes, and have it show the results.

Approval fence

The gate only reports pass or fail. Don't let the bot weaken or delete a check to make it pass without asking you.

What to tweak

You don't have to trust that the bot remembers. You can see it pass or fail the gate.
