Work

Hire one good bot first: a job description and a three-run probation

People spin up five bots, connect every app, say “handle the work,” and spend the week fixing guesses.

What hurt

ambitxbt (@ambitxbt) laid out a first-hire process: write the bot a job description, give it one cheap-to-undo recurring task, and put it through probation before granting autonomy. Not affiliated with xAI.

What to install or create

Define what it owns, what it receives, what it can do, what needs approval, and what done looks like. Run three supervised rounds: watch and note bad assumptions, fix the rule and retest, then let it work with you only at approval gates. Track interventions, time, cost, and side effects. Only widen autonomy after five clean runs and a tested rollback. Also remember bots on one account share a computer, sessions, and files, so a different bot name isn't a security boundary.

Bots

  • First hire

Owns one recurring, easy-to-check task under a written job description.

Plugins

  • None on day one. Follow the first-run steps.

Routines

  • None on the first run. Watch one manual pass first.

The prompt

First-hire job description and probation (author-quoted)

Quoted from @ambitxbt — as published. Do not invent a second system prompt.

the first Grok Bot needs a job description:

what it owns
what information it receives
what it can do
what needs approval
what "done" looks like

give it one recurring task that's easy to check and cheap to undo.

then put it through a three-run probation:

01 / watch the entire workflow and record every bad assumption
02 / fix the underlying rule, then test it on a similar task
03 / let the bot work, stepping in only at approval gates

track the result, human interventions, review loops, time, cost and side effects.

only consider more autonomy after five clean runs, a tested rollback and working approval gates.

First run

  2. 2Pick one recurring task that's easy to check and cheap to undo.
  3. 3Write the five-line job description from the quote below into the bot's instructions.
  4. 4Run three supervised rounds and fix the rule behind every bad assumption.
  5. 5Keep a short log of interventions and cost; widen autonomy only after five clean runs.

Approval fence

Approval gates stay on through probation. More autonomy only after clean runs and a rollback you've actually tested.

What to tweak

Build one bot you don't have to rescue every day before you build a team.
