A daily language-lesson bot, with a check on the voice's dialect

You want daily practice in a specific dialect, and generic lessons don't match how people actually speak there.

What hurt

Matt Walter (@LivinLrge) runs a bot called Lisboa that gives him daily European Portuguese lessons: greetings, phonetics, quizzes, and voice memos. The catch he found: the voice only spoke Brazilian Portuguese, and the bot owned it and pointed him to Forvo. Not affiliated with xAI.

What to install or create

A daily routine sends a short lesson with a “say it” column written for the target dialect, a quiz, and a voice memo. Because the generated voice may default to another variant, the bot flags that and sends you to native recordings for the sounds that differ.

Bots

  • Lisboa

Runs daily lessons in the target dialect and flags voice mismatches.

Plugins

  • None on day one. Follow the first-run steps.

Routines

  • Daily lesson. Every day. Greetings, phonetics, a quiz, and a voice memo.

The prompt

This is a tip, not a pasteable system prompt. The author did not publish one. Follow the first-run steps.

First run

  1. 1Read https://x.com/LivinLrge/status/2107987118077210905 (credit @LivinLrge).
  2. 2Make a tutor bot and name the exact dialect (for example European Portuguese, not just Portuguese).
  3. 3Ask for a daily lesson: phrases, a pronunciation column for that dialect, a quiz, a voice memo.
  4. 4Ask it to tell you whenever its voice doesn't match the dialect.
  5. 5For those sounds, check native recordings on a site like Forvo.

Approval fence

Low stakes; nothing is sent or bought.

What to tweak

Spell out the dialect, and ask the bot to tell you when its voice can't match it.
