Learn ComfyUI in-graph: numbered node notes + regex glossary

New ComfyUI graphs are opaque. Forums wait. You want in-context notes on the path you are walking.

What hurt

Christopher Fryant (@cfryant), on @PurzBeats advice, had Grok Bot update a ComfyUI workflow via MCP so each node got numbered notes along the path. He then had the bot build a searchable glossary for that workflow only, using regex instead of an LLM call so lookups stay light and fast. Tip only — no invented prompt. Not affiliated with xAI.

What to install or create

MCP-edit the graph with numbered notes. Add a workflow-scoped regex glossary. Ask deeper only when you need it.

Bots

  • ComfyUI coach

Numbers nodes, writes path notes, keeps a workflow-only glossary.

Plugins

  • Browser

    Optional

Files

  • Workflow backup before MCP edits.

  • Optional: glossary text/JSON the bot searches with regex.

Routines

  • None on the first run. Watch one manual pass first.

The prompt

This is a tip, not a pasteable system prompt. The author did not publish one. Follow the first-run steps.

First run

  1. 1Open https://x.com/cfryant/status/2102538567490920501 and the prior numbered-notes post it quotes.
  2. 2Backup your ComfyUI workflow. Connect the bot so it can edit via MCP.
  3. 3Ask it to add numbered notes beside each node along the start→finish path.
  4. 4Ask for a searchable glossary scoped to this workflow only, prefer regex (not LLM) lookups.
  5. 5Walk the numbered path once. Deepen notes only where you still do not get it.

Approval fence

Review every MCP edit before it lands. Do not overwrite a production workflow without a backup.

What to tweak

Steal numbered in-graph notes + a tiny regex glossary. Learn the path without leaving the canvas.
